The Story
Electric word-of-mouth is better advertising than anything money could buy.

The gap between sellers and consumers is getting thinner.
Engagement has become a necessity if you want to have brand recognition. Companies have noticed if they are accessible to their audience they can stay on top of issues and create a good PR for themselves if done correctly.

Companies can track the benefits and mistakes of every action we both take.
Search engine optimization, return on investment and cost of ignoring. These are ways companies keep an eye on the moves made online and to track their own efforts on social media. The use sites like Hootsuite to stay connected and updated about everything that goes on.

TheSkimm
Advertising and marketing go hand in hand with social media, it's impossible to escape. Real-time social marketing is here to stay and we have more say in what a company does now more than ever before.

Nosedive Reaction Post -- Extra Credit

Followers Follow Your Every Move

Black Mirror's Nosedive is a look into what out future could possibly become. While I personally find myself using social media less and less it was because I too found myself to be wrapped up in how others saw me. We have become entitled, we feel that their should be information and profiles on everyone we meet. Often even thinking people who don't have a social media presence to be strange. Social media has caused us all to not only look at ourselves through a microscope but each other as well. The word "followers" is used in countless social media sites like tumblr, instagram and twitter. Which makes sense because that is exactly what we do; follow each others every move, good or bad.
In Nosedive each person the main character some in contact with checks their "score" like a linkedIn profile. The scene in which she goes to a consultant to analyze herself is unsettling. To see every mistake you make shown are a chart that rises and dips.

( A declining chart)
One day out own lives could look like the chart in Nosedive, or the chart above. Everything we do becoming a simple line. Everything we do will remain on the internet forever, it holds our entire legacy. Having a legacy online is predicted to be a major contender for jobs and social situation in the future. We will lose our sense of authenticity in order to keep ourselves perfect online. Just like the following scene in Nosedive.

(Reviewing the lastest news with the Skimm)

The aspects I find to be most successful about the hyperlinks in the Skimm's news summaries are how it helps keep their work short. Credible sources are a must for news sites, with these hyperlinks reliable, more in depth information is available for those who wish to look in to it. The way they use keywords and phrases to hyperlink is very effective and shows you exactly what lays inside the link. While some may find the lack of flushed out information in the article itself to be a weakness I believe it helps keeps a balance between those who want short blurbs and those who do not.

Podcast Recording

ADD PODCAST HERE

Podcast Plan

1. a.)Organize and define the format you will use.
The format I will use will casual. I will discuss all different types of media you cant watch. Movies, television shows and even Youtube video series. The show will start by summarizing whatever that will be talked about. I'll then go more in depth about my feeling towards them and how I feel about the opinions of other on the material. Most of the time I will be alone but guests will be featured occasionally.

b.)Review “Competitors” sites for best practices. Summarize these.
Competitors could be Binge Mode, a weekly pop culture media podcast. The Rooster Teeth podcast a comedy podcast which occasionally discuss relevant pop culture media. Finally, The Bechdel Cast which speaks about the representation of woman in film.

2. Create a title and “log-line” that will define your series.
Title: Watchcast (Watch + podcast)
Log-line: 300 channels and nothing to watch? Not anymore. This podcast will give you new things to watch each week!
3. Plan a 10 episode series

  1. Going over the latest Game of Thrones episode and my feelings toward the series coming to an end.
  2. Best Netflix content you haven't heard of. Don't watch the office again, watch these hidden independent movies and international shows that can curb your boredom.
  3. Youtube series you need to check out.
  4. Book to movie adaptations. Pros and cons of adapting to film. My favorite and least favorite adaptations and why.
  5. Anime. The most icon series of all time, my favorites and dubbed vs subtitles.
  6. Ranking Marvel Universe movies. Someone who doesn't love MCU movies ft. someone who loves the films.
  7. Kids cartoons that adults will love.
  8. Big Little Lies season 1 recap.Reviewing the newest episode and predictions for the new season.
  9. Video games that you can watch as movies. Heavy Rain, The Last of Us and Until Dawn. You can watch people play these games on Youtube and it their stories are as satisfying as watching a movie.
  10. Discussing movies with big "twists" (Sixth Sense, Fight Club and Gone Girl). Did the writer pull it off? Did I or my feature guest figure it out?

4. Prepare for a live pitch session
We have years worth of video content at our finger tips and yet we continue to watch repeats of the same things. This podcast will recommend new content and bring up some old content that you may have forgotten about. Appreciate the endless worlds we have explore when we watch videos.
6. Describe how your series will be able to compete successfully in the marketplace.
Because the series doesn't stick to one medium, only shows or only movies, it will be able to draw in a larger crowd. As someone who also likes a wide variety of media I like to think I would hit a wide audience, both kids, adults and everyone in between.

Chapter 3 Blog Post

Chapter 3:Social Media in Journalism

(The New York Times website and enacted a paywall to
encourage readers to subscribe or have their access to  media limited.)
This chapter speaks about the relationship between journalists and citizens. With the option of a “back-and-forth exchange” or private direct message (DM) journalist’s need to decide how much engagement with their audience serves their personal goal and the company's brand. Journalism has begun adapting to meet new reader behavior. They now use things such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a concern for journalists.Using keywords for headlines and tags creates a faster way to get news out and newspapers now enact paywalls. The use of paywalls are one point that resonated with me the most out of this chapter. Those who wish to have access to well written and unbiased information should have to pay and in turn it keeps journalists and their publishers alive.

(Computer media relationships is a valid, open form of communication)

This chapter covers about how researchers developed computer-mediated communication as a way to describer how people interact online. People have their own unique identity when communicating through computers. Communities emerge from individuals with differing social identities and form realistic relationships. Social media platforms create shared meanings and languages specific to each outlet. These include words like Facebook's "wall" and Pinterest's "board". The strongest relationships online are built on mutual transparency and engagement.
